MetGen Oy is a Finnish biotechnology company deeply rooted in science and open innovation with strong market driven development. The company combines synthetic biology with chemistry and process engineering to create full industrial solutions to enable better utilization of raw materials and a new wave of bio-based materials.
MetGen has created very powerful production systems that enable swift industrialization and the affordable production of new enzymes. The processes have been designed to be robust and transferrable to contract manufacturing locations to allow us optimal capacity around the world. Additionally, this approach has enabled a new business model for licensing the production systems to the end-user either for on-site co-manufacturing of the enzymes at a biorefinery, or production by the local contract manufacturer. Currently, MetGen supplies enzymes and related technologies for paper and pulp industry and biorefinery enzymes for renewable chemicals, water treatment and biogas sectors.
In EnXylaScope, MetGen will be working on scale-up production of the project’s debranching enzymes. MetGen will perform pilot-scale (400 L) runs to validate the transferability of lab results to the commercial scale. Through the project MetGen will be able to explore xylan debranching enzymes and their potential to expand their product and market spectrum. For enzyme production scale up, MetGen uses its ENZINE® technology platform to develop industrial enzymes. MetGen has achieved successful industrial trials with sector leaders in forest and renewable chemicals and aims to be a widely recognized supplier of industrial enzymes, significantly contributing to the economics and sustainability of process industries such as pulp & paper, biofuels and biochemicals.
ENZINE® is a unique technology platform that combines protein evolution technology and fermentation process development. It enables recombinant expression of tailored enzymes that meet the needs of our customers. Utilizing the ENZINE®, MetGen has already improved the characteristics of many industrial enzymes including laccase, xylanase, endoglucanase, pectinase, and many more.
The core competencies of the ENZINE® include:
